Coursepacks are collections of teaching materials distributed to students either as printed and comb- or coil-bound booklets or as PDFs.

For more information about printed and bound coursepacks, contact Xanedu.com or Dollar Bill Copying. Both vendors can supply coursepacks to the EMU Student Center Bookstore and Ned's Bookstore. The sales representative for Xanedu is Melinda Prince (800-218-5971 x. 6565, mprince@xanedu.com). Securing permissions for copyrighted material can take up to eight weeks, so plan to begin the process with the publisher ten weeks before the first day of classes.

The process typically works as follows:

  1. Assemble the materials (a table of contents, copies of readings, custom materials, such as assignments, etc.)
  2. Contact a coursepack publisher for development options, pricing information, and timeline
  3. Contact the bookstore to enter your adoption plans
  4. Follow-up with the bookstore to ensure that the coursepack is on the shelf when you and your students need it to be there

Consider as a more economical alternative providing the coursepack in an electronic format available via EMU Online or eReserves.

PDF coursepacks can be assembled using Preview (Mac) or an application such as PDF Binder.

Consult EMU's resources on copyright to learn more about how these laws applies to the materials you gather in the coursepack.
